THE PRACTICE:
We started off the practice warming up running around the field a couple of times and doing some stretches. Most of these stretches were very similar to ones that we did for other sports! We stretched for a little bit and then got started by dribbling the ball around. Emily is a goalie so we practiced shooting and defending. This practice was really fun but was also super difficult! Blocking the ball from getting into the net was super scary but after a while we got over it. It was overall a very successful practice! VLOG: We made sure to get our interview with Emily and good clips of us playing soccer. This week was rough again due to the lack of people there to help us record but that is all part of the project! We started editing our track portion this week and we are almost done with it! We have been learning some editing techniques off of youtube and they seem to be working out really well so far! We can't wait until we finish editing all of the major bits of the video and get to put in some more little fun clips for everyone!

We are so excited for soccer week!!
Soccer Diet: Next week we will be meeting up with Emily Agejew and working on our soccer skills. We asked her about her diet and going right along with the rest of them, lots of protein. At this point in our project we have noticed a huge trend of protein eating. We were definitely expecting this to be a popular thing across all diets due to the fact that protein is critical to the process of forming energy. We have been eating things like chicken, milk, eggs, yogurt, cheese, turkey, and many other things in order to stay on track with the meals that the athletes eat. Have We Noticed Results?? We can definitely say that we have seen some results in our physical appearance, stamina, and have also come closer to reaching our goal of knowing what it takes to be an athlete. some things we've noticed so far are that you need to eat lots of protein, practice regularly, have a schedule for workouts/practices, and get lots of sleep! Documentary Process: The video is coming along very nicely and we are super excited for everyone to see the results!! During the practice:
This week we met up with Nate Brooks for a track practice. During the Practice we started off by stretching which took up more time than we were expecting. Their stretching routine is very lengthy which we learned is very important because it is easy to pull a muscle while running, and could end up affecting the rest of your season. It started off with us just doing some sit down stretches but then we moved on to stretches that require you to stand up and move around. One of the most interesting stretches we did was skipping. After we did that we had to do a warm up jog which is about one lap around a track. After that we set a goal on how long we want to run and in what amount of time do we want to try and do it. Even though we have been practicing with other sports and we have been getting more into shape we still weren't completely ready for how long and tiring this run was going to be. As a result we did have to take a few breaks during this practice and obviously drink lots of water. It's amazing how far Nate can run without stopping and how fast he can do it. The filming Process: The filming process wasn't to bad this week since we obviously didn't need a ball or anything thrown to us. We were able to have Nate film a little for us since we were just running. The hardest part was probably just filming the stretching because we had to find something to set it up on, and try to get a good angle on us. Documentary Progress: We've been doing the same thing we have in the past weeks which is just working on it little bits at a time. We will end up having extra time at the end of the project which is when we will probably get most of the editing done and take a few more clips if we need to. THE DIET:
This week we are starting our track diet and next week we will do the practices, which we are a little bit nervous for since neither one of us are that great at running a super long distance. We are going to be doing this sport with Nate Brooks. Nate told us that a day to day diet for him consists of lots of protein, fruits and vegetables, and water. He also said that he does not drink soda or eat lots of sweets. Nate is Reagan's brother so she knows what he typically would eat. Also because of this we were able to get a really accurate gage on what his day to day diet is really like. So far the protein has been a big part of every sports diet so we are starting to wonder if that is a main factor in an athletes performance. The diet all around was pretty similar to the past one's we have been doing so it was not too difficult for us to become acclimated to it. This week we really tried to focus on drinking lots of water and ate what we would now call 'normal' at this point in our project! VIDEO PROGRESS: We have been editing our documentary throughout the whole process and so far baseball has been a lot harder to edit than football has. It's also been hard because lately we have been getting a lot more school work so we're struggling on finding good times to edit it. We are glad that we will have a couple weeks at the end of this project to be able to finish up the editing and maybe go and take some more clips for it. "SUCCESS" PROGRESSION: We can definitely say that we have been seeing some major improvements in our bodies and shape. We have been gaining more muscle but at the same time losing weight which is exciting and exactly what we were hoping for. We are starting to see patterns within all of the sports that help us reach an answer to our final question which is, What does it take to be D1? This week we met up with Will Summers and did some baseball workouts.
DURING THE PRACTICE: We started off the practice by warming up and throwing the ball around between the three of us. We did this for about 10 minutes before we actually started to play. Will has/had a hurt shoulder so he was not able to play 100% but he was able to talk us through some of the stuff we needed to do. We both were able to pitch it and hit it multiple times. Will was able to tell us the right ways to pitch and hit and we definitely saw some improvement after this. To finish off the practice we had some fun and were seeing how far we could throw and hit the ball. We had a really good time during this practice! Playing baseball is fun but it does take a lot of time and determination! THE FILMING PROCESS: This week we were able to bring along one of our friends to help get the footage we needed for our documentary. Doing this helped a lot and we were able to get some good clips for the video. She was able to film most of the practice so then we had to go through and find parts of the video that were worth keeping, this was difficult because we didn't really know which clips would be the most helpful but so far we have found a lot of them that seem to fit well into the documentary. DOCUMENTARY UPDATE: So far we have edited the whole football section of the video and this weekend we started working on the baseball section. We have found little holes throughout the video that we are going to have to film little transition clips for but we plan on using the 2 weeks that we will have left at the end to finish up and perfect the video. The video is coming together very nicely and we can't wait for the final product! The Diet:
This week was our diet week for baseball. We contacted Will Summers and asked him what his diet is like and he told us pretty much the same thing that the football players told us. He said that his diet consists of just mostly eating protein. Thankfully he did eat a little bit less than the football players did but it was still not the amount of food intake that we are normally used too. Next week we will be joining Will Summers on the baseball field to ask him about baseball and to actually try out and see what his practices are like. Second practice: We also ended up having to do our second football practice this week because we were having a hard time finding out when would be a good time for us to go. Although when we went this week we were just practicing by ourselves. We based this practice off of the instructions that the football players gave us last week when we practiced with them. We started off our practice the same way we did the last one which just included stretching and throwing a little bit to help warm us up. Then we practiced running some of the different routes that they taught us last week. Then we ended off the practice by doing some of their speed and agility drills and a cool down jog. Even though we had only been to one other practice, there was definitely a slight improvement in our skills, which was probably mostly due to the fact that by then we knew what we were supposed to do and how to do it. The filming process: The filming process this week was especially hard since it was just the two of us. We ended up just having to set it up on the bleachers or on the ground in order for us to be able to film different things. By this we learned that if we do ever end up having to go to a practice by ourselves again, we will probably bring along another person to help us film or at least bring something to put our phone on such as a tripod. This week we met up with football players Jack Reynolds and Caleb Bowling. We did one practice today (Wednesday, 9/23) and we will do another session on Friday 9/25.
ABOUT THE DIET: For the week before we started having practices we followed the diet of these players. Both of them said that they eat lots of protien, so that is exactly what we did. We both had lots of protein filled meals and many protien bars/shakes throughout the week. Following their diet was tricky in the sense that they are a lot bigger than us therefore they eat a lot more. We tried our best to keep up with their intake but it was not perfect. DURING THE PRACTICE: To start out the practice we warmed up by stretching and throwing the ball around for a little bit. After that we started with offense by running some routes. We ran multiple routes and had the boys show us rights and wrongs of playing football. After this we worked on some defense and we did a lot of defensive routes as well. We learned about the correct way to block and many other important things to know when playing defense. To end the practice we did some 1 on 1's againt each other. We both took turns playing offense and defense and we had a great time. Today we went deeper into offense and slightly touched on defense, on Friday we hope to go more in depth with defense as we will only be with defensive players. Overall the practice was very fun and we learned a lot! THE FILMING PROCESS: We were able to film so good clips of us during the practice but it was kind of difficult since we were both trying to participate in the practice and film. Luckily we had another person come halfway into the practice who was able to help us out with that. We hope to get better at filming throughout this process so that we can have a good documentary at the end. |
